Covid presented us with so many challenges, and one of my primary take-aways from it was the importance of both long and short form video content. In 2020 my team and I pivoted hard onto both Youtube and Vimeo platforms, as we created live sessions for our customers to join us on. We started small with Instagram collaborations, gaining confidence and skills as we went along. We added video splicing, graphics and animated title cards to our live production, and spun those off into evergreen content now living on the Umpqua Youtube channel. We also utilize our video work on social media, clipping together shorter reels to catch the attention of our customers and future customers alike.
Video work starts with the idea, just as still photography does. I plan and schedule content generating trips, including long lists of primary shots and B-roll to get while we have the light. After the video is in the can, it’s all about recognizing what was shot to the right standards, clipping those pieces, and working to color correct, trim, clean and process them together into a flowing video. When we create content for shortform media we look at what piece of the larger story we are trying to tell and utilize the right audio, tempo and pacing to send the right message in the right format.
